Fic Reccing Time: Giving Alms to the Birds (Chap 4 of "Spoiled for Choice") by x_losfic
Today's rec is ... not a whole story, but it's lovely.
Title: Giving Alms to the Birds (chapter 4 of Spoiled for Choice)
Pairing: Four/Simm!Master (No sex, which is good because I think sex between them would be very, very, very wrong, but I'm a prude about some things)
Length: approximately 1932 words
Warnings: None
Author on LJ:
x_losfic
Author website: None to my knowledge, but many of her stories are up on Teaspoon under the name "x_los".
Why this must be read: Spoiled for Choice was a multi-Doctor (sort of) epic that the author has since, sadly, abandoned, which is a decision we should all respect. The whole story was great, but this one chapter --- the chapter with Four --- hit a chord that still resonates. The image of Four, patiently soothing an ailing Simm!Master, made me feel so relieved that the Master gets some ... mothering, I guess ... from the Doctor at last.
Excerpt: The Doctor is saying something patiently, repeatedly, and the rhythm is good and soothing. He closes his eyes to appreciate it and he has an idea of what he wants. His will is a blessing, and it comes to guide him out of the horror of noise and pressure and terror.
