Big Bang Illustration: Like Old Times by Tierfal

Ahoy! Sneaking in during the last week, here's my Big Bang illustration for tierfal's absolutely charming and delightful fic, Like Old Times.




Tierfal's fic has everything I love about the "Doctor and Master travelling around in the TARDIS" theme. Snarky, witty banter; bratty Master; exasperated, barely-keeping-his-wits Doctor; curious planets and dangerous enemies that force them to work together; Master/Doctor tension; Master & TARDIS tension...

With my illustration I really wanted to capture the energetic and (I know I've said it before but it bears repeating) delightful interactions between the Doctor and the Master in "Like Old Times." There's so much playfulness and teasing under the tormenting, and the dialogue just bounces you back and forth and carries you along. (One of my favorite exchanges:
“You crashed my TARDIS.”

“I did not,” the Master protested. “I called her a disobedient whore, and she crashed herself.”

The Doctor crossed to the console and started petting everything he could reach. It would take her a week to forgive him for this one.)

Stylewise I had been planning to do a more cut-paper, super modern look, but I totally failed. So you get my comic-book-y style! And the Master looks way too young. And... and... Just go read the very excellent story. <3
