Rec (fic, something epic)
Actually I’m not sure if I should be reccing story written for b_e big bang (which btw I somehow managed to miss and caught with Variations on teaspoon by chance), but well I honestly think it’s one of the top 5 and so so epic, that it just should be on b_e rec list. And when I write epic I mean it in the most straightforward way possible, because that fic spans 1500 years. And no cheating like sleeping most of it off.
Title: Variation of forever by

Word count: around 120-130 K
Rating: R
Pairing: Every Doctor/Every Master (except 11) Oh! and Doctor and Master are married.
Era: 1-9 and 10 up to s3 finale in the middle of which fic merrily declares itself full-fledged AU.
Author summary: “Some things are fixed. Some things can be changed. But the true nature of permanence isn't an easy lesson, even for a pair of Time Lords. A Master-POV take on the first fifteen hundred years of their lives—together, apart, and every state in-between.”
Why? (short version): squee!
Why? (long version): First of all, the Doctor. No, wait. First of all, the Master. Right. Need to get my priorities straight. 1) The Master is obviously crazy maniac with ego size of the universe. Duh! BUT author gives such a delicious reason WHY, that by 4th or 5th chapter you will seriously start to hate the Doctor for stopping the Master. 2) The Doctor. As it is revealed in the later chapters he is as bat shit crazy as his better half. Even more so. 3) It is all canon including War Games and Shalka!Master and Valeyard + the Master gets to be very smartly inserted into other adventures, like Genesis of the Daleks, if I'm not mistaken. BTW, at that particular point you would probably feel like punching the Doctor in the face, I’m sure it’s perfectly normal. I did. *shrugs* 4) Rose. Yes, you read it right, Rose. You know in most D/M fics people do not know what to do with her. The solution found in this fic… I don’t think I ever saw it somewhere else. It’s brilliant, it’s crazy and it works. So I wouldn’t recommend Variations to any die hard Doctor/Rose fan. As in, seriously don’t. Because (see screened spoilers below)…
Spoilers: *Rose is human clone of Master&Doctor daughter that died in explosion, which was totally Master fault and ever since they tried to get they daughter back, but succeed only in totally fucking up the universe and themselves in the process. Including on of the Doctor's “brightest” idea like creating her human clone and naming her Rose Tyler.*
He's a Renegade. He's a Renegade, and a criminal, and a murderer. That very oldest of dreams, of the kind of recognition and fame that his own people could give him, has just met the last nail in its coffin. But he hasn't really dreamed that dream in a long time. Now he dreams of paradoxes—except his first night in the Vortex. The first night, he dreams of a nameless member of the Chancellery Guard, screaming as he shrinks to death, lying dead in a tiny form that makes a grotesque comedy of the image, red uniform staining his skin like the blood that seems only fitting for such a scene. And the Master wakes, covered in sweat, listening to his own pounding hearts, and thinking of two others that are no longer beating.
