Rec: Those Aren't Mine (And crossover videos)

Tis the season to crossover (Fa la la la la~) No, really, the King's Speech, Hereafter, and Lear? The universe wants you to put more Jacobi in your fics! Alright, so there's no Jacobi in today's fic. It's still lovely. and I still need Eight barging in on the Master's passionate performance. Here's to crossovers!

Title: Those Aren't Mine
Pairing: Five/Ainley!Master
Length: 671
Summary: While sorting through the Doctor's things, the Master comes across some very interesting letters.
Warnings: None
Author on LJ (or Teaspoon, or Prydonian):[livejournal.com profile] sm47
Why this must be read: Even if you don't pick up on the punchline, the framing descriptions are worth it. The Master tidies up after the untidy, yet chaotically organized, Doctor. This is just canon. He's also just a touch possessive. I think what stuck with me about this fic was its length. Many crossover stories strive for so much more, with a great deal less heart. Implied, danced around, good natured crossover at its best.
Excerpt: This particular trunk held collections R through T and was positively overflowing with rubbish. Old vinyl records without covers, a Sirulian war mask, several broken pocket watches he felt sure belonged in another bin, dated blueprints for that infernal screwdriver, and even a carefully wrapped impressionist painting signed by it’s creator.

Heaving a sigh, the renegade set about what was sure to be a lengthy task of arranging this sad excuse for a filing structure. None of these silly relics held any interest for him so he continued the sorting with a rather detached resignation until something caught his eye.

And, because today was Saint Patrick's day, how about a little something extra.

I Won't say I'm in love

Pairing Three/Delgado
Music: I Won't Say I'm in Love-Hercules
Why this video is awesome: One of the undisputed classics of D/M vidding, this little gem is linked at regular intervals on b_e chat. Each time it appears, its showered with praise, both by those familiar with it and those seeing it for the very first time. There's a reason. Everything about this video is perfect, from the choice of clips to the timing. I've come to associate this song so strongly with the pairing it's ridiculous. Some fanfics create a realm of ship or fluff believability through skill of execution, this video does the same.

Hellfire: from the people who brought you Code Monkey
Pairing: Three/Delgado
Music: Hellfire- The Hunchback of Notra Dame
Why this video is awesome: Yet another Three-era gem, I'm afraid my bias is showing. Still, ship-flavors aside, I like videos that can be enjoyed on multiple levels. On the one hand, there are basic lolz to be had at any non-Disney clips set to a Disney song. Going a little deeper is the choice of this particular, rather heavy, Disney song, and its suitability for the character. In the wrong hands, this video would be slightly embarrassing to watch due to these undertones. Fortunately, Alex handles the implications with grace, leaving more than enough room for either interpretation.

Rest In Peace
Author: colourfulblindness
Pairing Ten/Simm
Music:Rest in Peace
Why this video is awesome: Is there a better D/M pairing for this song? I thought not. The Doctor Who/Buffy possibilities seem, in my wanderings, sadly unexplored, particularly in terms of vidding. This is one of the few D/M Buffy videos out there, despite the looming possibility of an all Doctors cast of Once More With Feeling. This video is a small slice of well timed, cleverly edited fun. If you've craved Doctor Buffy, like I know I have, this video belongs on your playlist.

Drumming Song
author:xXXHariboXX
Pairing Ten/Master
Music: Drumming Song-Florence and the Machine
Why this video is awesome: To finish, we have something I'd never seen before that I'd love to see more of. After playing around on youtube for more than ten minutes, an observant D/M fan might think there's nothing new to be done with this song. "But Tu," he might whine, "The drums/drums connection is so heavily over used! It's on every fanmix and in eighty zillion videos! I've seen it all!" And-- well, I can't say that this video is an entirely new approach in that sense, but boy is it different! It's proof that no matter how many times one sees the same old songs, there's still something new to be done with them. Most importantly? It's funny, and willing to laugh at itself. That's what I like in a crossover.
