Until the end of November, we do declare the Ten/Simm!Master Challenge!

Eventually, we had to get here. It's how a great many of you entered the pairing, after all!

NOTES:

* The table challenge is officially complete, BUT no reason not to meander through the rest of the prompts! [livejournal.com profile] gritsinmisery is making special belated goodies for those of you who want to finish in your own good time and receive our just acclaim/something shiny for it.

* We've not loved on our anon meme for a good long while! Feel free to prompt, to answer the prompts that have tricked in during the time-out, to attend to any of the old prompts! Not that you couldn't do this before, but you know, now I'm enjoining.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. Why doesn’t the Doctor initially disable the Master’s paradox machine? I’ve heard before that he wanted to wait and find out what the Master’s plan for it was, but really, that seems counter-productive. He knows than Master’s plan is reliant on the Paradox Machine, and damage to it will throw a spanner in the works—why not just take it out? Apparently one can just shoot at it, and leave the TARDIS repairable in the aftermath as well—not exactly a time consuming mechanical endeavor. Thoughts?

2. If it’s only implied in the show, it’s very discernable to the reader that Yana!Master regenerates into Simm!Master to better parallel Ten. This is interesting, as Ten might be said to have regenerated from Nine into a body with a greater compatibility to his current companion, Rose. Is the Master remaking himself to mirror the Doctor an embarrassing self-effacement? It troubles the divide between what's Him and what's the Doctor in a way that's only possible with someone whose very secure in their own self-image, or pretty lost. Is it an effort to achieve compatibility? A return to the ‘mirror image’ dynamic of the Three/Delgado!Master era after the vicissitudes of the Ainley!Master era? A palpable ‘anything you can do, I ca do better’ challenge? Is the extent of their similarity intentional on the Master’s part, or something he had limited control over? Got crazy fanon on this one/how their regeneration processes interact? Now’s the time to share!

3. The Master and Other People: because sometimes even the most single-minded creature in the universe had to acknowledge other people exist. What’s up with Lucy? A prop to get elected? A faux-companion to mock the Doctor with? An actual source of companionship, or sexual satisfaction? Why her—was she unstable before? Did she simply have the right background, and all her crazy’s just a result of the Master’s influence? What’s she doing during the entire Year That Wasn’t? How did her relationship with the Master change during that year, when the Doctor was on-board, if it did? What’s the interaction between the Master’s desire for the Doctor and what happens to Lucy? Does she serve as a proxy? A release valve? An instrument to taunt the Doctor with? Whipping-girl when the Doctor says no?

Also, what’s the Master’s relationship with the Toclafane? He calls them his children and seems earnestly distressed when they vanish, but is that really earned by the script? Why would he particularly care about humans—hold over from the Yana era, or some feeling of connection? Predicated on what?

4. What’s the Master’s plan for his New Time Lord Empire? Will he and the Doctor basically be the only Time Lord component, or is he planning on recreating the species/reclaiming the planet/something still more ambitious? Is he going to rule the universe, or just kill off its inhabitants? Does he have an overarching plan, or is it all pretty much ‘I’ll build my rockets, they’ll enable me to kill stuff, yey’?

CHALLENGE SPECIFICS: I know it’s NaNo month, so some of you are Busy. While December brings it’s own shiny new Challenge, we’ll still mention your contribution in December’s wrap up if your fic gets finished closer to the Holidays because you were busy composing your Magnum Opus and couldn’t find time to write slash until halfway through Advent. :p Just don’t let an unfinished Ten/Simm!Master story rob us all of your genius during the upcoming Holiday Challenge (That’s right, someone start writing How the Master Stole Christmas or I loose faith in your inherent crackiness.).

CHALLENGE: Ten/Simm!Master

BUT: Try and write or draw something really unusual. We’ve read trapped on the Valiant, and imprisoned on the TARDIS, and we’ll no doubt all read more, but what about some 'Utopia doesn't end like that' fic with Simm!Master? Or 'Master totally agrees to battle across the universe' fic? Obviously the Doctor needs to give him something GOOD to get him to do it (like superlatively good—good enough to throw over this vast ‘Prime Minister’ scheme levels of Good), but then he does love a good ‘battle across the universe,’ and the Doctor begging him for one is especially nice. Extend your AU beyond Master!death? Time loop? Eighteen months didn’t go quite as the Master had hoped? Old-school style adventure? Far future fic, where whatever happened on the Valiant was ages ago?

Obviously, set your work wherever it needs set, but extra points for the stunningly original!
