Oh, man. I've avoided making an entry here since I'm not quite sure what to say, but seeing as how I've been posting to the community for a couple of months now, I guess I should bite the bullet and write a proper introduction.
So. Hello! I'm May. I'm a longtime Doctor Who watcher who's only recently started exploring the fandom. My hobbies include writing capslocky episode predictions, posting terrible fanfiction, and nerding around LJ.
I guess you could say that Seven is my Doctor, since he was the first Doctor I encountered on public television back when I was a kid, but as far as Doctor/Master shipping goes, nothing beats classic Three/Delgado for me. The tension! The banter! The camp! The angst! The bemused human bystanders! Three/Delgado's got it all.
I also have a strange fondness for the little Eight/Jacobi!Master fanfiction I've seen, in spite of the fact that I've never listened to the Eight audios and have very little idea of what would be IC or OOC for either character. I just. I really love all the timey-wimey story potential inherent in the Time War, and I've always been huge sucker for love stories set during wartime.
In my personal fanon: (1) Simm!Master is currently chilling inside the Time Lock with the Rani, drawing up escape plans and trying to accessorize the fashion-forward new glove that he stole from Rassilon; (2) the Doctor always loved the Master, which is why he despises the Master so much for turning himself into a monster; (3) the Doctor and the Master are both switches in bed; (4) the Doctor and the Master were always rivals, even when they were friends, and their Theta/Koschei days involved more thrilling competition and lulzy experimental sabotage than schmoopy declarations of twoo wuv; and, (5) that being said, they clearly had some kind of "friends at Eton" thing going on back then, and maybe they would not have fucked up their relationship so badly if they weren't both complete and total failures at expressing their deeper feelings in a clear and coherent manner.
Schmoopy declarations of twoo wuv could have saved the universe a lot of grief, guys. :(
I love writing and reading about about this ship because there are so many ships within the ship, and so many things that can be done with it. The variety is endless!
*waves* Hello! I'm Jane, and also very late introducing myself. I never know what to say in these things. But I'm a fanwriter and long-time slasher who wandered into Doctor/Master quite accidentally from Sherlock Holmes fandom, and it should be noted that the next time I hear someone compare the Doctor and the Master to Holmes and Moriarty, which seems to happen ALL the time, that person is guaranteed a smack upside the head. I could explain all the reasons why the comparison is inapt, but none of us has got that kind of time.
Anyhow, as to fanon...well, I'm sort of writing mine right now, in many many more words than this comment box can contain, but I definitely believe that the Doctor and the Master were married way back in the day. There does not exist another institution in the universe capable of inspiring such feuds as theirs. I also believe that all that repressing Five does in his day to day life translates into COMPLETE shamelessness in bed--it's always the quiet ones. I love reading fic from pretty much any era, gen or slash or even het, but Doctor/Master is of course what really makes my toes tingle. I am bored to death by John Smith, and madly in love with Professor Yana, which I think says a lot?
ALSO, it pains me right down to the very bottom of my soul that no one on this comm has ever written Six/War Chief!Master. Just think!!! The bitchiness!!! The complete lack of sartorial sense!!! They would snark each other to oblivion, and then they'd go off and conquer the effing UNIVERSE together, and it would be TERRIFYING AND WONDERFUL, y/y???
Er. Hi. I'm Michaela. University student. Midwestern USA.
Got into New Who a couple of years ago, courtesy of catching a rerun of "The Empty Child" on PBS which hooked me completely. Probably as a result of that, Nine's my Doctor (although I loved Ten and have recently become inordinately fond of Eleven as well). I love the old series but haven't seen much; until a couple of weeks ago my exposure to Classic Who consisted of a half-dozen Four serials, "An Unearthly Child," and not much else. I've been attempting to remedy that since term ended, although all that has resulted so far is that I've become slightly obsessed with Five.
While Simm!Master is fantastic and insane and awesome, I find myself starting to prefer the older Masters as I see more of them. Still, I find the dynamic between the Doctor and the Master in all incarnations to be really intriguing, just for how twisted and weird and complex it is; I love it for the crazy, I guess. I joined this comm primarily for the discussion (oh, okay, and for the cybearsharks. Best meme ever). Academy-era is a special weakness of mine, just because of how much there is to theorize about and explore and see how it affected the two of them and their relationship for centuries.
Personal fanon? You mean more than me randomly deciding that the Master is (for whatever reason) a damn good cook? Not really much at the moment, although I'm sure I'll come up with more as I continue digging through classic episodes.
Other random stuff: Doctor Who's my main fandom at the moment, and for some reason it's made me really crafty. It's inspired me to knit like a madwoman -- I'm starting my third Scarf o' Doom and am contemplating a Five cricket jumper. I've recently gotten the cosplay bug: I'm working on a Donna costume for Chicago TARDIS in November, and a friend and I might be making Weeping Angel costumes for C2E2 '11.
Yes! Hello! I've kind of stalked this community since forever/whenever I first realized the absolutely joy of Doctor/Master. I don't really know when that was, I think I watched some fanvids of Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords and then my brain imploded from the MASSIVE SUBTEXT. So then I became this giant D/M shipper, which was really weird considering I rarely get worked up over particular pairings or anything. I'm still kind of a shipper whore; I don't particularly care if the 'ship is unpopular, I'll like it if the story's good enough. (Of course, I can hate it in another story. It's all subjective. I'M FLIGHTY WHAT CAN I SAY.)
My Doctor used to be Ten, but then it shifted to Eleven. I still love Ten though, and Nine. And Eight. Actually, I love all Doctors. Even Six. (I just want to steal his coat.) My Master is probably Simm, but I have to say that Jacobi was brilliant and needed boatloads more screen time.
But, well. My personal fanon is that (SPOILERS FOR THE FINALE) plastic!Rory had adventures with quite a lot of companions through the ages of standing guard and/or tried to Spread The Word about the Doctor a la Martha in the Year That Never Was. In terms of Doctor/master, though, I just kind of morph my fanon to suit whatever fic I'm reading at the time. I'm amorphous. Like an amoeba.
Anyway, I hardly ever write proper fic, so this'll just be a comment journal. :P
Hello! You seem like a lovely wee community here, so here I am to join you! I'm a fan that comes from New Who, and I came to Doctor Who as a result of stargazy repeatedly regaling me with Whodom at about 2 in the morning. More specifically, with tales of the angst that was Ten/Simm!Master the first time around. The giant angstbucketfest that was that two-parter and, more specifically, the painful complexeties of Doctor/Master, made me give a good hard look at a programme that, as someone who rarely watches tv, I had otherwise ignored. Obviously I like a lot more about the programme than Doctor/Master, but that's how it started.
I am a big fan of timey-wimey business and timeline crossing. I love the idea of future Doctor secretly lurking in the background of stalking visiting the past Master, and visa versa, though as we know from Simm, older!Master is a damn sight less clingy, and hella bitter. How that stalking secret visiting would work with the whole Timelord detection thing I haven't figured out, but whatever. I also wonder if the drumbeat affecting Simm!Master has something of a backwards leak, affecting Ainley to a lesser degree and Delgado lesser still. And, in that case, how much of Ainley's madness is down to that, and how much to desperation and angst and actually going mad? It is interesting.
I adore the way that all of the Time Lords seem to ship them. I want Three's clothes, and Eight's. I live for crack and angst. Well, that and the huge complications and subtlties that come with the pairing. I can't quite comprehend them actually Gettin It On Baby at any point during the timeline of the show, because for me the magic is in the balance of tension between them (see Five/Ainley) and the consequences when it gets tipped over (Ten/Simm).
Three/Delgado might just be my favourite thing ever. THEIR LUV IZ SO TRU.
*Er, I feel it is important to make an important footnote to clarify something Very Important. Important. About the whole Gettin It On thing. I must make it clear that this does not not NOT apply to any AU. By which I mean SHALKA YEAH LADS STUCK IN ET CETERA. :D Or any AU fic I happen to meet. Awwwww yeeeeeah.
CODA:
I REGRET NOTHING. MUAHAHA. :D
