Rec: And Other Things That Never Happened
Sep. 19th, 2010 09:37 amHello all! I'll be your reccer this time around, and I've tried to pick out fics from a variety of different styles, eras and genres, so hopefully you'll see something you like in the next two weeks. First off, we've got a bit of the lighter side of D/M, to start your Sunday off with a laugh.
And Other Things That Never Happened
Pairing: Eleven/Master, Amy/Rory
Length: 2k
Warnings: Season 5 spoilers
Author on LJ (or Teaspoon, or Prydonian):
tabula_x_rasa
Why this must be read: For many, many reasons, but most of all because the Eleven voice is absolutely spot-on, and that's such a rare thing. In fact, Tabula gets the entire Eleven Team TARDIS right as rain; the Ponds are a complete delight in this fic. There's something undeniably fun about watching companions get along with the Master, a thing that's been pretty much impossible in New Who until recently, and watching the Doctor, the Master, Amy and Rory banter and snark and just plain have fun together is basically better than Christmas. Also, extra-super bonus points for Old School concepts (time ram FTW!) imported for the lulz. It was incredibly difficult choosing a section to excerpt from this fic, because there are so many bits that make me laugh out loud, but as I can't copy-paste the whole fic into this rec, I'll let you discover the others for yourself.
tl;dr: Read it now, but set aside any liquids first, or be prepared to laugh them out of your nose
"Do you have a ship around here, or..?"
The Master rolled his eyes. "No. I took over Gallifrey, executed an extremely complicated bit of flying and an extremely complicated bit of temporal physics affecting space on the quantum level, but I forgot to bring a TARDIS." He looked at the Doctor as if implying this was something the Doctor might do, which was ridiculous. The Doctor had never forgotten his TARDIS while doing any of those things, nor anything else.
"Took over Gallifrey? How unlike you not to mention it sooner."
"I thought it went without saying," the Master said coldly.
"I did assume," the Doctor admitted. A certain stiffness went out of the Master's shoulders.
There was a burst of laughter behind them and when the Doctor turned around, Amy made a stupid soppy face at him and mouthed "My hero." Rory made a kissy face.
The Doctor turned around. As far as he was concerned, there was no one behind him.
