Hello! Merry Christmas everyone! IIIII will be your reccer for the next two weeks. And in the spirit of Christmas and the Christmas Special (did everyone love it? I loved it) let's start off with some Eleven.

Title: Things That Were Not, Yet Should Have Been

Pairing: Eleven/Ainley!Master

Length: 780

Summary: Two Time Lords meet along an unraveling timeline.

Warnings: Erm, the author warns for vague spoilers for The Five Doctors and The Big Bang, which hopefully for most is not an issue anymore.

Author: eumenides at Teaspoon

Why this must be read: I am often dubious about how new who and classic d/m pairings would actually work, which is sad because mismatched d/m is one of my favourite things ever. This fic is lovely because it overcomes those issues, possibly because it's such a fragmentary glimpse but also I think because it's grounded in a very strong, practical, obssessive Ainley, who's at that wonderful For-Once-I'll-Actually-Put-Our-Relationship-Ahead-Of-My-Schemes-And-Think-Logically-About-How-To-Make-This-Work 5Ds stage (if only one incarnation hadn't tried to punch him in the face. Just one. The ship would be a very different place.) He doesn't really care about what kind of trouble the Doctor's got himself into, or what issues he has. He wants him no matter the regeneration. Really I think much more fic could follow in this one's lead. The avenues The Big Bang provided bear exploring. I also have a special place in my heart for people who use show quotes in fic. And this one uses one of the best.

Excerpt: “I don’t have much time left,” the Doctor interrupted. “I wasn’t sure I wanted to do this, letting myself get swept along. I don’t like replays. But now I’m glad I did. I’m glad I could see you again.”
