Summary: They burn, in the darkness and the light, circling round each other like binary stars just on the edge of nova. They both burn, but they do not burn the same. Theta, Koschei, and their successors.

Why this must be read: Sometimes Theta and Koschei stories can get to feel very similar - it's the shared headcanon, or something. That's why I'm always excited to see a story that offers something new (even if it's an older fic, like this one). Flowers on Fire is funny at first, then becomes more solemn and layered as you go along. Combine all that with a startlingly beautiful use of language, and you've got an excellent fic.
