best_enemies | Rec: Christmas Crackers (Parts I & II)

Surprise! The theme is Christmas fic. Oh, I know, I know--before you start throwing vegetables at me for reccing a Christmas fic when we've only just begun October, let me tell you why: I, in all honesty, was born on the 12th Day of Christmas. In a family that recognizes the Twelve Days of Christmas. So, I'm basically hard-wired to be a glutton for Christmas things all year round (I crave eggnog in March and watch Rudolph in July), and thus, I can't help it. Now, you may feel free to throw vegetables at me.

Summary: As the holidays approach, UNIT finds itself under siege by the Master, whose enthusiasm for Christmas appears to be as sincere as it is sinister.
Warnings/Rating: The only warning needed (other than for the very serious crack) is that it is still technically incomplete. I know it’s generally not a good idea to rec a WIP, but this fic is definitely, definitely, definitely the exception to the rule, and for a very good reason. (also, it is PG)

Why this must be read:

This. This is the kind of fic I dream about when I giggle myself to sleep at night. It may be heavily Christmas-themed, but if you want a good laugh, you really can’t go wrong with this fic at any time of the year. As is the norm for both bagheera_san and x_los, they have phenomenal character voices, but they also pull every little secular holiday custom out of the bag and twist it into a scarily believable and hilarious UNIT-era Master Scheme. Yet perhaps the most brilliant thing of all is this: you know before you begin that you’re going to be reading crack, but when you’re actually reading it you don’t notice you’re reading crack, and that is what makes it work so very well. If all the Doctor Who Christmas specials were like this fic, I would be a very happy narwhale indeed.

And at one point, the Brig is drunk, and there has never been a more epic moment in my life than when that occurred.
