The Master has returned from the dead, captured the Doctor and they were about to play the Master’s favorite game, which, for the lack of better name, he called just “find-the-last-person-the-Doctor-fancied-and/or-had-sex-with-and-kill-them-as-slowly-and-painfully-as-possible”. It was suspiciously easy to penetrate the Doctor’s mind – well, sure, he was starving for a contact with another Time Lord, but he must have known what the Master was up to. What was even more strange, the Doctor wasn’t trying to hide the memory of people dear to him, the Master could see them all at once, right on surface. Anyway, thought the Master, let’s get on with it.
River Song. Already dead, died saving the Doctor, but was given nice afterlife. Damn.
Astrid Peth. Already dead, died saving the Doctor and was transformed into a cloud of shiny blue sparkles. Triple damn.
Reinette Poisson. Already dead, didn’t die saving the Doctor. That’s a relief. Historical figure, which means the Master can’t go back and kill her painfully. Bugger.
Jack Harkness. Immortal, and besides, the Master had already killed him several hundreds of times. Some jokes never grow old; Captain Jack’s immortality simply wasn’t one of them.
Rose Tyler. Parallel Universe, alive and well, with her very own version of the Doctor. The Master felt sick at stomach. On the top of all, she could never, never-ever come back to this Universe. Rassilon’s rod!
He pulled out of the Doctor’s mind and glared at him, but he was smiling innocently at the Master.
“It’s just not fair! You’re cheating!”
“I missed you too, Master.”
