My apologies if someone has mentioned this before now, but I haven't seen it if so.

So, while watching "Logopolis" tonight I was looking through Big Finish's audio page and discovered these beautiful things. Crispy!Master is coming back for a two-part Fourth Doctor adventure!

As you may be aware many of us are currently involved in a project to create a whole season's worth of Shalka audio adventures. You can help out without investing a lot of time/work by accepting an invite to a program called Dropbox and installing it on your computer.

What is dropbox?
Dropbox is a program you can use to share and distribute files without tedious uploading and downloading. We're using it for the audio files we're recording, but you can use it to share any file with any other user who has dropbox - all you need to do is invite them to your dropbox folder. It's very quick, safe and easy to use.

Why would we like you do accept the invites and install dropbox?
If you accept an invite and install dropbox (you have to complete the installation, both to get the extra space and for dropbox to really do what it's meant for, i.e. sharing files directly from folders on your desktop), both you and the person who invited you get extra dropbox space, and we need it badly at the moment because we're recording huge amounts of audio.

If you'd like to help out, please PM me with your email or leave it in comments, and I'll send you an invite and my eternal gratitude!

Radiosonic Workshop is currently producing a series of audios based on the BBC Webcast, Scream of the Shalka (written by Paul Cornell, starring Richard E. Grant, as the Doctor, Derek Jacobi as the Master, and Sophie Okonedo (Liz X) as the companion, Alison). It’s based heavily on the format established by our beloved Big Finish (4 x 25 minute episodes). The series will run to 7 episodes with a contained arc.

We’re looking to recruit actors to non-main characters, such as:
  • Various Vikings
  • Time Lord Jerks, all sizes
  • Relatively (aha, you’ll get that pun later) important people you have met before in canon, oooooh, mysterious!!
  • Kangaroo People from the Planet of Australia
  • Americans that sound like frigging Americans (No love here, Big Finish. Wtf was “Minuet in Hell”?)
  • Draconiansssssssss (be prepared to do that kind of a lot)
  • Cyberfolk (gender equality, guys)
  • GHOSTS!! How gooooooood is your unearthly ‘ooooooo’?
  • And Many More...

We not terribly bothered about actor gender, or accents unless we specifically mention these things – as long as you give a strong performance (or can say ‘ooo’ very fiercely and/or knowingly), we can work something out.

We have short dialogue sections for some of the aforementioned characters, taken from the finished scripts, for actors to audition with. We’d like actors to record these sections in the environment they would record the actual episodes, and with the equipment they would use.

More details and audition pieces in this post.

PLEASE GET YOUR AUDITIONS FOR EPISODE A ‘VIKING’ PARTS IN BY OCTOBER 14th. MORE DETAILS ON OTHER DUE DATES AS PRODUCTION MOVES ALONG, BUT AN EARLY SUBMISSION NEVER COMES AMISS. FEEL FREE TO LEAVE SAMPLES FOR UPCOMING EPISODES AS WELL: THE POST WILL BE KEPT OPEN AND UPDATED WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO FACILITATE THIS.

* We’ve decided to extend the call for main actors to October 7th. For more information, please see the post on our comm. In case you are intimidated by the stuff about production quality and time commitments therein (or above), PLEASE DON’T BE! Show us what you've got, and we'll work with you on sound quality and time. Those are factors to think about, but what we're looking for is a great performance. Don't let the fact that you don't currently have a foam-lined podfic bunker lying around keep you down/stop you auditioning! The techy bits you’ll be expected to deal with are pie-easy once you get the hang of them, we swear. We save the true descent into hell for the editors...

* Please consider applying here for production positions: we still have openings for a Head of SFX, more SFX team members, and another director. Doing challenging SFX for a downloadable series shows a variety of skills. Fannish as it may seem, this could be the makings of a good portfolio example and recommendation for people looking to work in related fields. We’re currently well-staffed with editors and music people, but more help is, of course, always appreciated.

Following up from the production posts of a few weeks ago...

A small group of Doctor Who fans are currently producing a series of audios based on the BBC Webcast, Scream of the Shalka (written by Paul Cornell, starring Richard E.

We’re looking to recruit four actors to play the main characters. These are:
  • The Doctor – an adventurer in space and time (a bit cranky)
  • The Master – former nemesis of the Doctor, now a robot trapped inside the TARDIS (too charming for his own good, or anyone else’s)
  • Alison Cheney – a former history student and former barmaid, now adventurer in space and time (restrained, but kind. Willing to talk, willing to fight back)
  • Sigurd – a Viking poet/warrior, now adventurer in space (open and warm, excited by everything, unashamed of his bloody past, and generally good natured)

For the first three, it’s best to watch Scream of the Shalka (which is free!). We’d like to get as close to the sound of the original actors as possible. This means we are ideally looking for British accents/good approximations, and good approximations of the way they speak. We’re less bothered by gender – as long as you give both a strong performance and a good impression of the character (without necessarily impersonating the character), we can work something out.

Sigurd is a new character, so feel free to take him in whatever direction you feel is best, within the aforementioned confines.

We have three short dialogue sections for each character, taken from the finished scripts, for actors to audition with. We’d like actors to record all three sections in the environment they would record the actual episodes, and with the equipment they would use.

More details and audition pieces in this post.

PLEASE GET YOUR AUDITIONS IN BY 12:01 AM (BST) SEPTEMBER 17TH.

We are also still looking for production team members!
If you’re experienced and/or interested in directing, audio editing, sound effects, or music composition and/or performance, come check out details and apply for a production position in this post. (We especially need SFX people! Where my foley peeps at? ...Anyone?)

Just a reminder--Caerdroia listenalong in the chatroom at 6:30 B.S.T. today, almost ONE hour from the time of this post!

Please use this Discussion Post for non-chat comments! Caerdroia has well-observed characterization, a hugely fun conceit, and a great sense of humor. It is perhaps the most accessible and pleasant Eight-audio. So maybe you should go out with it. Maybe I am your blind-date pimp. Maybe I am /that/ friend. And enragingly, /that/ friend? Is often right. Perhaps you *should* give Caerdroia a chance!

I've just finished listening to "Sympathy for the Devil" and I've been (ever so quietly) bowled over by it. :-D Has there been any discussion about it on the comm, or has it inspired any fic?

And can any recommend any other Big Finish audios for me to listen to next?
[identity profile] x-losfic.livejournal.com
How goes the listening period? Any issues/thoughts? Remember, the Listening Period ends Thursday, 11/12/09. If you'd like to prompt (which would be much appreciated!), please leave a contribution in the little box.

...omg, guy from the movie Labyrinth with the bird on his head: brown guardian?!

ANYWAY.

As the resource problem has been taken care of much sooner than I anticipated, I'd like to initiate the two-week Listening Period today.

To buy BFAs, one can go to their website. If you have the money, there are certainly worse things you could spend it on. Like crocs.

So, from today until 11/12/2009, I'd like anyone who wants to play or is just curious to listen to an audio or several of their choice and get to thinking.

Additionally, I'd like to use this post for two things:

1. RECS

Please use this post to recommend both

* personal favorites
and
* audios you think would be good/comprehensible for beginners
.

Saying a little about these audios would be enormously helpful!

2. PROMPTS

I spoke with a comm member who felt a bit intimidated by this challenge's lack of structure. If people are hopped upon by any rogue plot bunnies while listening to the BFAs,  I don't want to cramp their style like I'm 'swimming shortly after eating.' BUT, some of you thrive under a bit of restraint, because some of you are art!kinky like that.

SO: If you'd like to prompt people, request a fic/art, etc., please leave your suggestions below.

* You can come back and do this after you've listened, as well.
* You could prompt anonymously, if you're too ashamed of your DEEP NEED for some Trapped in Victorian London in Thomas Brewster!Five/Master fic to speak of it on the internets--though god knows why, that'd be great.
* I will collect the suggestions and write up a prompts list at the end of the Listening Period.
* If any of the suggestions strike a cord, you can claim and fulfill one, making someone a very happy prompter.

ALL FIC AND ART MUST BE DOCTOR/MASTER RELATED IN *SOME* WAY. Suggestions that easily facilitate such work will be especially prized.

REMEMBER:

two-week Listening Period

Hey all,

Well I've been here quite a few months now, and sadly never had much to contribute before. Well I dunno if this has been posted here before, but the other day I picked up a Doctor Who CD in a pound shop, which has on it 2 half-hour audio books, read by Nicholas Courtney and Sophie Aldred.

Anyway, the first of the 2 stories is called Freedom which involves Three and the Master, so I thought I'd post it here incase anyone wants to give it a listen. It's not overly slashy, but the Brigadier does use the word "friend" when referencing what the Master was to the Doctor. Plus the Doctor takes the Master's feelings about being jailed into consideration, which made me "awwwww."

Here's the download link if anyone wants it: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N2EE1KVR
