Has anyone else noticed that a lot of composers, especially Romantics/post-Romantics, use a certain four-beat rhythm? Being a singer who often does opera and oratorio, I could easily bring to mind several passages in oratorio and opera (the Verdi Requiem's Dies Irae, for example), and my Music History class has brought up several others. Tchaikovsky especially seems to love this rhythm. It's everywhere in his work, especially towards the end of Swan Lake and in the final movement of Pathetique.

And then there's Bolero. Ohh, Bolero. You know, that Ravel piece that everyone knows and probably hates? Yeah, I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but it became popular because an eighties movie called, I believe, 10 (*points and coughs*) had a character who said it was a good song to have sex to and then it was played during a sex scene. (I learned this in Music History. It's a fun class.) There is a beat of four played in the snare drum for the entire. Song. This has done interesting things to my headcanon.

So I'm wondering if anyone has done anything with music with that rhythm and Doctor/Master and/or if there are any conspiracy theories regarding certain Romantic/post-Romantic composers and the Master? If not, would anyone care to use any plotbunnies that arise from this post to create some? They aren't really formed in my mind and I have no idea what kind of fic I would even write about this, but... yeah.

Okay, so I'm not sure if it's really allowed in this com... but as [livejournal.com profile] nemaline pointed out to me, it was highly doubtful you guys would mind all that much.  I've got it tagged as a plot bunny for lack of better idea of what to tag it.  It's not so much of a plot idea, but an idea for a fanvid.  And since my talents are completely lacking when it comes to such things, I thought I might as well pass the idea along.

Basically, I've been wondering why no one has ever made a fanvid of Doctor/Master slash to the song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics.  Some spoilers for various episodes therein.

Reasons in the cut. )

The most recent issue of SFX Magazine contained an interview with Matt Smith, and there were a few snippets I think should aid all my lovely Doctor/Master writers in our delightful scribblings, such as:

Q: And he [Troughton] has a bow tie as well, just like you.

A: Yeah, he did have a bowtie, he did, he did! I think he's rather marvellous, Patrick Troughton. But it's so clever. It's just such a clever televisual conceit. Whoever thought of it...we have this show that can go to any universe, any place, any time and this one person can be reinvented in whatever direction he or she chooses.

Guys, not that I'm calling for a sudden flood of genderbending Eleven/Master fics, but this is an opportunity to be grasped by the horns and given a good rogering. For more of Smith's oddities, such as having Bits Of Pertwee, and having dinner with Peter Davison and 'getting his toy out', I'd advise you to buy the magazine.

Okay.... thanks to this little gem: http://the-curlyone.livejournal.com/12328.html#cutid1 I had an idea...I interpreted: " “So,” the Doctor continues cheerfully, “1800s?” " to mean that the Master did NOT stop killing and thought of Jack the Ripper (no idea if the allusion was intended or not but that's what my brain came up with!) and then got to thinking... what other figures in Earth history could have been blamed on visitations from the Doctor and the Master?

Replies can take any format, just be sure to use the 'Time Lords Down The Ages Challenge' (or time lords down the ages challenge) tag and to post them as replies to this entry. Can be any rating... Cross posted to several comms, hope that's okay?!? I just thought it would be a fun theme to explore!

Hello, fellow SlashWhovians! This is my very first post, and as a potential active community member, I would like to post up a picture I have drawn, and ask for an opinion on a possibly fun group game.

First, the drawing. This is just a little black and white picture involving SimmMaster and TenthDoctor. It's only warning is just a mild amount of cursing, and of course, slashiness hint. It's on my deviantart account, in the link below:

Alright, second: I've noticed there are a couple of decent artists in this site (far better then myself, anyway), and thought it would be fun to do a highly interactive art game. Has anyone here ever heard of an Art Fighting Tournament before?

A fighting tournament is when a group of artists get together and are paired against each other. Each artist creates a comic (or flash, for those so inclined) showing the two characters fighting, with their own character winning. Then, either a panel of judges or a public voting system decides which comic was better, and whoever's comic was chosen becomes 'cannon'. Then it just keeps going until there's only one artist left who finishes up the 'story' however they want. The hosts job is to organize all of this, creating a scenario which forces the contenstants to fight, and will sometimes create scenarios for the contestants to fight amongst (like, for example, the place their fighting suddenly has an earthquake or something).

I thought it would be an interesting idea to host a fighting tournament, which forces the (eleven) doctors against each other, instead of working together. I would, of course, volunteer to host the tournament, but I would still need eleven interested people in join. In order to make the tournament even, we would also need a twelth player, who could play as any other character other then the doctor (such as someone from the Sarah Jane adventures, Torchwood, or one of the villians, like the Master or a Cyberman). If more then twelve people want to get involved, then I'll of course allow extra characters from the show (though, for now I'm just hoping I can even get twelve people interested *sweatdrop*).

So, is anyone interested? Of course slashiness will be allowed (If Doctor Who has taught us anything, it's how such things can be added in to even the most intesnse of situations ^_^) . Or, if you don't feel like being a contestant, we'll probably need a panel of judges if you're interested in that.

So, any thoughts?

P.S. My tags may not be right for this entry. It they're not, please let me know and I'll fix it.

Am I allowed to post plotbunnies here?

This came to me as I was tossing and turning in the heat the other night. (Yes, while the rest of the world freezes, Australia is experiencing a prolonged heatwave. %-) Anyway, since I'll probably won't have time to write it, here's my plotbunny:

The Master - any version - gets stuck in some technologically backward part of Earth's history - preferably sometime after the invention of writing but before the Industrial Revolution. He's without his Tardis, his TCP or his laser screwdriver, or any of his favourite tools/toys, and lacks the means of bootstrapping the technology. He decides to blow a hole in one of those "fixed points of history" the Doctor worries about, knowing that it will bring the Doctor (any version!) running...

(Hmmm... giving the Aztecs gunpowder? Assassinating Queen Elizabeth I? Helping the Persians to win at Marathon? Author's choice... )

What do people think?

I was watching the Doctor deploying his Venusian Akkido in "The Green Death" last night, and found myself thinking about the infamous sword fight scene in "The Sea Devils" as well. Where, I asked myself, did the Doctor and the Master learn their combat skills? It doesn't seem the sort of thing which would be routinely taught on Gallifrey (even the Citadel Guards seem pretty ineffectual, let alone the Time Lords in their cumbersome robes!)

Anyway, to cut a long mental ramble short, I found myself imagining a (very) young Theta and Koschei teaching themselves fighting skills (I can just see them watching illicit martial arts videos!) because they just knew that after graduating the Academy they'd be heading off to explore the great wide universe, and would need the ability to fight off any dangerous primitives they might encounter.

Awwwwww.... *G*

I just had a little virtual chat with [personal profile] shinodabear and now I'm wondering.  Except for [personal profile] gritsinmisery's very fun recent drabble featuring the Doctor singing in the shower, I don't think I've ever seen any Three/Delgado!Master shower fic.  I even only remember one Ten/Simm!Master shower fic, but that could just be me having a senior moment.  But I am absolutely, positively sure I've never seen any fic that fully capitalized on the Three's shower scene in "Spearhead from Space".  I mean, there he was, singing (which [personal profile] gritsinmisery captured beautifully, by the way), beautiful green snake tattoo on his forearm and wet, naked and (for those of you who can still only think of your grandfather when you think of Three) very nice torso taking a shower in this shower that looked like it could double as one of those cages that cage dancers dance in, and absolutely no Master of any kind in sight.  What a waste!

I'm not sure if this is allowed so feel free to delete if it isn't...

Could someone/many someones possibly do a Doctor Who/H.P. Goblet of Fire crossover?
If this seems odd - this is why.

I've only ever seen one. But I believe there should be more.

I would love to see Harry Saxon take Barty out of Azkaban. And then
a) the Master shows Barty outer space and shows him off to the Doctor
and/or b) The Master meets Voldemort - that would be epic.

I might even try it myself, as I have some spare time, but my inspiration is evil and comes at extremely random and infrequent times.
