Why this must be watched:

It is like watching an entire minute of visual-audio art. This vid provokes so much backstory and angst and yearning and longing in just one minute, and it doesn’t feel the least bit overdone in any way nor do you end up feeling like you got cut off too short at the end. Phenomenal editing. And it has War Chief!Master in it! That almost never happens! My favourite part, though, is the amazing inclusion and juxtaposition of sad!Nine with sad!Yana!Master. Brilliant. Overall, a beautiful collage of the Doctor/Master dynamic set to a very well-chosen song.

Why this must be watched:

The beauty of this vid is in its simplicity and its variety. Generally, I’m of the opinion that you don’t need a lot in order to make a good music video; you just need clever and attentive editing with enough variety of clips to maintain the viewer’s interest. This vid accomplishes those objectives in an extremely satisfying way; I’ve loved it so much that I’m probably responsible for at least 50 of its view counts. The vidder does an excellent job pairing lyric and image together, and there is a solid pace maintained throughout the whole of the video. The song fits nicely with that obsessive ex thing that these two Time Lords seem to have, and for a vidder's first video, it is a damn good one.

I would like to speak to you briefly on the subject of Doctor/Master Fanvids.

Now I'm sure many or most of you will have seen the worst this category has to offer, shoddily constructed affairs set to pop or rock songs, looping the same three scenes from 'Last of the Time Lords' a half a dozen times.

While these can be entertaining, I understand that the fine members of B_E are a certain level of connoisseur, and expect nothing but the best for their viewing pleasure.

To that effect, I wish to introduce, or rather remind my readers that while we are fortunate enough to have extraordinary authors and remarkable artists, Doctor/Master fandom is host to several excellent fanvids of both old and new D/M varieties.

As with most fanfiction of this pairing, two basic genres of vid exist. For the purposes of this review, I have chosen one of each category.

The Epic: Space Dementia by nastally
Pairing: All Doctor/Master, emphasis on New Who.
Why It Should Be Watched: The creator describes this as her Magnum Opus, and it truly is. The editing is beautiful, with some of the best timing and cuts I have ever seen, set to slightly haunting music. While not a fast paced video, it does not give the feeling of slowing or growing repetetive throughout its six minute run, the artist using every era and (my favorite gimmick), well incorporated quotes from the show to paint one of the best psychological and historical profiles of this pairing.
Warnings: Leaves that wonderfully slightly sad and disturbed feeling in the pit of your stomach that only the best fics and artwork do.

The Crack: Drop Dead Gorgeous by GeckoGoose
Pairing: All Doctor/Masters up to 'LotTL'
Why It Should Be Watched: In the way that only sometime crack!fic and vids can do, this is a perfect representation of Doctor/Master, (to say nothing of Doctor/Master Fandom) through the years. With every canonized version of both our Best Enemies, quick and playful editing and above all, perhaps the catchiest song with remarkably relevant lyrics since ABBA's Mamma Mia. While highly under appreciated at only 1200 views, this is perhaps one of the best in D/M Crack!vids.
Warnings: No, seriously. This song will stick in your head whether you love it or hate it.

The other day I sat down and watched all of the Pepe le Pew cartoons. I came to the conclusion that the Master makes a lot more sense if you think of him as an evil version of our favorite skunk. Behold, the crack-spawn of my brain.

Here's how it goes: I take dialogue from Pepe le Pew cartoons, then add them to appropriate Doctor/Master images. It all adds up to sweet, glorious crack. I pray that the "cut" feature works for this.

Hey, sorry, I meant to get these out days ago but life got busy (why on earth do people work and why did nobody warn me?) and then whenever I did have a few minutes Lj seemed to just die on me.

Anyway, as an apology, have some fics.

Title: The Thousand Natural Shocks
Pairing: Ten/Simm
Length: 8,600 words
Summary: Now, just when the Master has finally worked out how to die, the Doctor has apparently forgotten.
Warnings: None provided, I will say that it gets a little dark and kind of creepy in a few places.
Author on LJ: soda_and_capes
Why this must be read:
Because its incredible? The Master is crazy and the Doctor is broken and creepy and, actually, this kind of makes more sense than most of the Season of Specials, or maybe it makes them make more sense. I'm not sure. But it takes little pieces from Utopia to End of Time, and squishes them together into a really strong, cohesive fic. The fic feels familiar and in some places and rather strongly ironic and darkly amusing in others. The Doctor/Master aspects are pretty subdued, but still obvious when you notice them, and quite touching because they're so subtly inserted.

Excerpt:

Please let me help. The Master thinks the Doctor must have suddenly acquired a sense of humor. He watches the shock roll across the Doctor's face as the what have you become resolves itself into horrible realization. The Master tries to echo the look, when all he can really feel is joy at the mess the Doctor's mind is beaming straight into his. What have you become? Time breaks in shallow waves around the Doctor, snapping and twitching. It's gorgeous. The Master hopes it's at least partially his fault.

And so the Master runs. Because the Doctor is running toward him, not away, and the physics of it just take over the Master's body, equal and opposite.

He is so hungry.

Why this must be read:
It's really, really good. It's short, it’s funny, and it’s a nice way to get the morning on track. And this is one of the easiest reads I had lately (in a very good way). The Master is sarcastic and funny, 10 is himself and I should really hurry up and comment on this.

"Master--" the Doctor starts--mm, the Master closes his eyes, he does like hearing his name-- "Master, I will care in every lifetime. Don't you see that?"

"You're mad," the Master says simply, and bursts into giggles. Isn't he ironic.

"Maybe," says the Doctor, which shuts the Master up for just a second.

The gap closes up behind them. The Time Lords are gone. Gallifrey is receding into unbeing in the Earth sky. Old man locked in the cupboard. The Doctor still won't look away. Big damn cow eyes.

Why it must be watched: Um, real, honest to god audio by Ainley (and Tom a little) overlaid with things like the sounds of zippers being unzipped and people smooching and the Doctor saying that he's "just a bit to sexy, really". If you ever wanted to know what Ainley would have said to Four if he ever wrote him a love letter, then this is for you. If you haven't then watch it anyway and feel your mind boggle.

The final vid wasn't going to be included, because it would reveal my no-longer secret semi-fondness for Miley Cyrus, but the end credits imply that Five and Ainley should have been there and despite watching the vid three times in a row, I can't find them. So, first person to find them wins a cookie.

Jip is an awesome companion! Haven't seen Human Traffic and it doesn't really matter, everything you need to know about Jip is in the fic. So although I'm sad this isn't finished, It's still worth reading, for those of you who shy away from wips.
